Apart from being fun and therapeutic, this short 4 week course is designed for beginners and will focus on HAND BUILDING.
During this time, you will learn how to make the following:
• Hand Carved Cups.
• Bowl Making
• Jar Making
• Slab Mug Making
Note: We do not learn on the wheel for any component of this course.
You will also learn how to colour and glaze your own pieces. Your choice of three stoneware dipping glazes will be available to use and are included in the cost. Note: Complicated glazes and colour combinations are not offered.
You will be provided with one bag of stoneware clay, and all the tools you will need to achieve each project. This is kept on site, along with all unfinished pieces that are in the making. You will be contacted once your pieces have had their final firing. Approx three weeks after the course end date.
Class sizes are kept to a max of four students meaning you will gain real hands on help with each piece you make.
Course begins Feb 24th till June 17th March 2023 and runs for 4 weeks.
Common questions:
Can I bring children, pets to the course? No. Courses are for ages 18+ only. The pottery studio is not a safe place for pets, babies or children.
What does the course cover: Apart from a knowledge of how to hand build, the cost of the course covers, your clay, two firings for all of your pieces, your glazes, tool usage, my teaching time, the rent for the studio, and the pieces you go home with.
What do I need to bring? An apron and a drink bottle. There are no mobile phones or bags allowed in the space.
What if I can't make a class? Make up classes will not be on offer if you can’t make a day, you will miss that weeks project.
What if I cant make a class can I have a refund? No, classes and materials are planned well ahead of time so please ensure that if you sign up, that you can attend all four weeks as I don't offer refunds.
What if I have paid but can no longer attend the course? If you are unable to do the course, you will need to give five days notice to receive a full refund. This way, I am able to fill your place in time.
What if one of my pieces cracks, breaks or blows up in the kiln? Sadly, this can sometimes be the result of air bubbles getting into the clay while making or bad joins when making. It's my job to teach students how to avoid this, however, rushing or moving ahead too fast for some students, can sometimes result in mistakes happening and pieces being ruined in the firing process.
